Middlebury, CT
A Warm, Welcoming Environment
Ricci Construction Group won the 2016 HOBI Award for Best New Commercial Building for this two-story, 9,826-square-foot law office building in Middlebury.
Construction on this existing 1920s office space began in September of 2014, with a scheduled move-in date of August of 2015. The site required remediation, demolition, and excavation to address challenges like a steep elevation change, high water table, and bedrock. A large retaining wall (8 feet high, 400 feet long) located at the rear of the property and a reengineered drainage system were implemented. There was also a tremendous amount of blasted material that was repurposed behind the large retaining wall.
The elevation change was addressed by a sweeping stone staircase and custom retaining walls built on site using the stone from the property. The landscaping is fully sprinklered, in addition to a parking lot with granite curbing for a beautiful classic look, well lit with decorative light posts.
The interior, featuring the finest available building materials, is composed of 26 separate offices, 5 conference rooms, 2 kitchens, 2 his and 2 her baths (one with a shower), copy room, and a large file room that is open above to all the surrounding hallways.
This building’s form and functions creates a welcoming atmosphere,
starting with double-glass entry doors leading to a reception area with custom raised panels and crown molding offering a warm comfortable feeling. Offices include detailed finishes like crown molding, chair rails, and raised panels, while sound dampening ceiling panels ensure privacy. The conference rooms are inviting with plush carpets, soothing colors, and tray ceilings.
The exterior is Cedar Impressions with natural stone and PVC trim. There is a large blue stone patio for everyone to enjoy with a stone sitting wall surrounded by gardens.
